This seminar provides a broad overview of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia to understanding and managing symptoms and behavior. Healthcare providers are eligible to take the path to certification as a CDP® – Certified Dementia Practitioner®.

    Intended Outcomes/Objectives

    • Enhance the quality of life for patients with dementia by educating care providers
    • Discuss current, past, and future trends for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment
    • Foster sensitivity and respect for clients with dementia
    • Learn communication techniques to identify needs and facilitate appropriate socialization opportunities
    • Reduce client and staff stress while improving the effectiveness of care
    • Identify methods for assisting patients with activities of daily living while maintaining dignity and comfort
    • Recognize common causes of aggression, repetitive behaviors, and sundowning
    • Learn alternative activity interventions that account for varying levels of abilities
    • Discuss environmental design and considerations to maximize comfort and usability
    • Identify sexuality and intimacy needs and concerns
    • Highlight cultural needs and perceptions impacting care needs and client support
    • Gain an understanding of nutritional needs and strategies
    • Recognize caregiver needs and support systems

    Seminar Instructor: Jennifer Hand, M.S., CDP®, CADDCT®

    As an Elder Care Coordinator at Bratton Law Group, Ms. Hand oversees the coordination of clients’ health and long-term care, serves as their advocate, and empowers families with the knowledge they need to make the right decisions for their loved ones in every circumstance.

    Prior to joining Bratton Law’s life care planning team, Ms. Hand was a Helpline Care Consultant for the Alzheimer’s Association, where she provided advice and problem-solving counsel to clients regarding care, decision-making support, guidance during transitions, crisis assistance, and connections to local services.

    Jennifer is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, where she earned her Master of Science in Community and Trauma Counseling and her Bachelor’s in Health Sciences. She is a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
