Description: In many ways, mental illness can manifest the same symptoms of dementia, and vice versa. While there are a lot of similarities between the two, there are also some critical differences. Despite the reach and prevalence of mental illness, though, stigma and misunderstanding are still widespread. Couple that misunderstanding with the fact that mental illness can imitate the symptoms of dementia, and vice versa, it has the potential to lead to misdiagnosis. 1 CEU for Social Workers, Case Managers, Certified Assisted Living Administrators and Licensed Nursing Home Administrators.
