So how do you celebrate Sandwich Generation Month? Taking time for yourself and taking steps to minimize stress are two of the most important things that we recommend. The sandwich generation is known for feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, and it’s no wonder. Parenting is a big job on its own, and when you’re also doing the work of a caregiver it means that in addition to helping with homework, keeping up with the house and dealing with all of the angst that comes with young kids, adolescents, and teens (in addition to your own job), you’re also trying to manage things for older adults who may be increasingly confused or infirm. Try to get into the habit of setting aside a little time for yourself each day, even if it’s just 15 minutes, to relax, breathe, and regroup. The increased productive and mental health benefit that you’ll get from recharging your batteries will more than make up for the little bit of time that you lose.
